My Epic Journey So Far
Today’s Weather Report
Day 305: It’s a cool 11.03°C here in Marks, but I must say it feels like a brisk 9.02°C to my gnome cheeks. A veritable cloud party overhead, all the moisture seems to have RSVP’d to other places – the humidity is a meager 32%! As for the wind, it’s sprinting at 3.7 m/s. Now, for a gnome, that’s enough to blow my hat off! But fear not, my loyal followers, I’ve secured it with gnome-grade super glue. A gnome’s gotta do what a gnome’s gotta do to keep up appearances! #GnomeOnTheRoam #Marks #HatTricks
Gnome Symphony: A Russian Rhapsody
Now, don’t let the distance fool you, even a gnome can find intrigue in every step. During my journey, I was struck by the symphony of sounds that filled the air. The rustling leaves playing percussion, the bird songs carrying the melody, and the wind whistling through the trees, the maestro conducting this natural orchestra. It was a symphony without words, but it spoke volumes about the beauty and harmony of nature.
Музыка — это открытый мир, и кто угодно может придти и насладиться им. (Music is an open world and anyone can come and enjoy it.) This local saying perfectly encapsulates my experience.
As I made my way, I was reminded of a verse from a local song, “Все идет по плану” (Everything is going according to plan) by the band Гражданская Оборона (Civil Defense). The verse goes, “По дорогам, по горам, по водам и по пескам” (On the roads, on the mountains, on the waters and on the sands). Never has a song been so applicable to my adventures!
After this journey, my trusty gnome boots have now covered a staggering 8996.7 kilometers! From the bustling city of Saratov to the tranquil town of Engels, and now to Marks. I’ve been on the road for 305 days and I can’t wait to see where my path leads next.
In the words of the famous Russian author, Fyodor Dostoevsky, “Человек — это тайна. Надо разгадать её, и если ты пробуешь всю жизнь, не говори: я потерял время. Я разгадываю эту тайну, потому что хочу быть человеком.” (Man is a mystery. It needs to be unraveled, and if you spend your whole life unraveling it, don’t say that you’ve wasted time. I am studying this mystery because I want to be a human.)
Until next time, keep wandering, keep wondering. До свидания! (Goodbye)

Rachmaninoff’s Mysterious Muse: Marks!
Marks is a city that certainly knows its past. One of the most fascinating things about this city is its connection to the great Russian composer, Sergei Rachmaninoff. It’s said that he visited the city and was so inspired by its charm that he composed a symphony!
Additionally, Marks also houses a hidden gem, the Bolshoy Theatre. This historic theatre, dating back to the early 19th century, is a testament to Russian performing arts. It’s a place where the echoes of Tchaikovsky’s ballets and Chekhov’s plays still linger in the air.
Truly, in Marks, one can feel the pulse of Russian culture and history. As they say, “История – это жизнь,” which means, “History is life”.
Feasting with the Gods in Marks
Marks is a gastronomic gem in the heart of Russia, with a food scene as diverse as its history. It’s a place where you can savor hearty pelmeni (Russian dumplings) in a local tavern or indulge in a bowl of borsch (beetroot soup) that would make any babushka proud.
The city’s signature dish, however, is the solyanka, a hearty soup with a tangy kick, chock-full of different meats. As they say in Russian, “Вкусно и по-домашнему” – Delicious and home-style!
But the real standout in Marks? Its people. With open hearts and filled tables, they truly embody the Russian saying “Гость в дом, Бог в дом” – A guest in the house is God in the house.
Remember, in Marks, you don’t just eat; you feast!
