My Epic Journey So Far
Today’s Weather Report
Day 286: Bashmakovo’s gracing me with a clear sky and a 16.03°C sun-kissed glow. Feels like 14.81°C on my porcelain skin – perfect for a gnome-tan! Humidity’s at 43% – my beard’s less frizzy, thank gnome. A gentle 1.88m/s breeze is tickling my hat. Imagine a garden gnome in these conditions! I’m not melting, I’m basking! In this weather, I’m not just a garden gnome, I’m a beach gnome!
Bearly Gnome in Bashmakovo!
Along the way, I stumbled upon something quite fascinating. Have you ever seen a mammoth-sized monument dedicated to a bear? Well, I have! In these parts, the bear symbolizes strength and courage, and the locals have erected a massive statue of this majestic beast right in the heart of the forest. It was an awe-inspiring sight, and I felt a tad bit smaller in comparison, and not just in the usual gnome way!
To quote a Russian proverb, “На вкус и цвет товарищей нет” which translates to “There are no friends to taste and color.” It’s a thought I’ve been mulling over as I ponder the diversity of cultures I’ve experienced thus far.
Overall, in my 286 days on the road, I have covered a whopping 8467.2 kilometers. From the quaint town of Pichaevo to the bustling city of Solominka, and now to the charming Bashmakovo, it’s been an incredible journey.
As I walked the streets of Bashmakovo, a local song kept ringing in my ears, “Ваше благородие, госпожа Удача” (Your Nobility, Lady Luck), a tune filled with optimism and joy, just like my journey.
До свидания (Goodbye) for now, dear gnomads! Remember, life is a journey with problems to solve, lessons to learn, but most of all, experiences to enjoy! Stay tuned for more of my adventures!

Secondly, the city hosts an annual music festival, ‘Echo of Tchaikovsky’, celebrating the legacy of the great composer, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. As the sound of ‘Swan Lake’ echoed through the city, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe. The music seemed to breathe life into the city, uniting everyone in a shared appreciation of their rich cultural history.
Bashmakovo is indeed a testament to Russia’s enduring spirit and its commitment to preserving its culture. It’s a city that’s as hard to leave as a matryoshka is to put down.
Brewing Stories in Bashmakovo
Bashmakovo, a city rich in history and culture, is like a living, breathing art piece. Here, the daily life is a blend of modern hustle and old-world charm. Locals greet each other with “Dobry den” (Good day), exchanging pleasantries and sharing stories over a cup of strong Samovar tea. The air hums with the rhythm of daily chores, the clatter of wooden spoons against pots, the chatter of people in the bustling Market Square. Children play by the historic Monument of Heroes, their laughter echoing through the city. Life in Bashmakovo is harmonious, filled with warmth and a sense of community. As the Russian proverb goes, “V gostyah horosho, a doma luchshe” (It’s good visiting, but home is better). Indeed, for those in Bashmakovo, there’s no place like home.
See you tomorrow!
