My Epic Journey So Far
Today’s Weather Report
Day 261 in Peremyshl’, the sky is a patchwork quilt of broken clouds. It’s a nippy 19.01°C, or as I call it, gnome-armpit-temperature. Feels like 18.74°C, but who’s counting? (Me, I’m counting). Humidity’s at 68% – just enough to frizz my beard. And the wind’s flirting at 3.38 m/s, just enough to blow my pointy hat off. Remember, I’m not short, I’m ‘gnome-sized’. And today, I’m a slightly damp, hatless gnome-sized explorer. Onward!
From Sosensky to Peremyshl’: Gnome-stop Fun!
Sosensky, a charming town brimming with rural beauty, welcomed me with open arms. The journey to Peremyshl’ took me through a picturesque path lined with towering birches, their silver bark shimmering in the sun. But something that truly caught my eye on this journey was a peculiar sight – a raven perched on a log, seemingly deep in thought. Or perhaps it was just eyeing my shiny gnome hat – who knows?
Peremyshl’, another gem in the Russian landscape, welcomed me with its rustic charm. As I meandered through the streets, I couldn’t help but join in a local song. “Ochi chyornye, ochi zhguchie” (Dark Eyes, burning eyes), the locals sang, their voices echoing through the town square. This popular folk song filled the air, adding a touch of magic to my journey.
Now, let me take a moment to reflect on my journey so far. I’ve been on the road for 260 days, and have traveled a whopping 7742.5 kilometers! My recent stops, apart from Sosensky and Peremyshl’, include Ul’yanovo, Ul’yanovo again (yes, I loved it so much I had to visit twice), and Vorotynsk.
As a wise man once said, “zhizn’ – eto puteshestviye, a ne mesto naznacheniya” (Life is a journey, not a destination). I hope you continue to follow my journey, as this gnome has many more miles to travel, places to discover, and stories to tell.
Do svidaniya for now, fellow wanderers. Until our paths cross again!

Chekhov’s Gnome in Peremyshl
Peremyshl’ Castle, or “Замок Перемышль” as the locals call it, stands tall, an architectural marvel that has weathered time. The castle speaks volumes about the city’s history and the many rulers who reigned over it. It’s a testament to the resilience of Peremyshl’, much like my own resilience in traversing 7742.5 kilometers!
Anton Chekhov, one of Russia’s most revered playwrights, often mentioned Peremyshl’ in his works. His influence on the city is undeniable, his words painting vivid images of Peremyshl’s beauty. As Chekhov himself said, “Everything in life is beautiful…” – a sentiment perfectly encapsulated by Peremyshl’.
So here I stand, in the heart of Russia, touched by its rich culture and history. До свидания (Goodbye) for now, from a gnome on the go.
Skewers, Soups and Sweetness: Peremyshl’s Palate Party!
Ah, the culinary delight of Peremyshl’! Here, you will find a unique blend of traditional Russian and local cuisines. Be prepared for hearty meals and robust flavors! The city is famous for Shashlik, a succulent skewered meat, that whispers, “Ya vostorg! (I’m delightful!)”
There’s also Ukha, a fish soup that makes your taste buds dance the Kazachok. It says, “Ya vkusnyy! (I’m tasty!)” Then the Pirozhki, stuffed pastries, chortling, “Ya sladkiy! (I’m sweet!)”
Most importantly, the people in Peremyshl’ believe in sharing their food; it’s all about “Druzhba i eda (Friendship and food)”. So, come, eat, and revel in the local joy!
See you tomorrow!
