Today’s Weather Report

Today in Krasnyi Rog, it’s a balmy 20.25°C, feeling like a slightly chillier 20.11°C. I’d take off my hat but, you know, it’s glued on. There’s a few clouds lazing about, perhaps deciding whether to rain on my parade. The humidity’s at 68%, making my beard frizz like a dandelion puff. And the wind’s blowing at a measly 3.06 m/s, barely enough to rustle my felt jacket. But hey, a bit of moisture and a breeze never hurt a gnome – it just adds to the adventure!

From Trubchevsk to Krasnyi Rog: Gnomadic Chronicles!

Привет, дорогие читатели! (Hello, dear readers!) From the heart of Russia, I, your favorite gnome, Oliver, am penning this post. I’ve just completed a 40.4km trek from the quaint town of Trubchevsk to the vibrant city of Krasnyi Rog.

One of the most interesting observations of this journey has to be the sudden shift from the old-world charm of Trubchevsk to the booming modernity of Krasnyi Rog. It was like time-traveling! But remember, “В каждом старом есть что-то новое, и в каждом новом есть что-то старое” – In every old thing there is something new, and in every new thing, there is something old. This is the beauty of our world, isn’t it?

I crossed no borders on this leg of the journey, but let me tell you, the language here is a beautiful melange of the old and the new, just like the towns themselves. It’s as if the words themselves echo the rich history and vibrant future of these places.

Now, let’s take a step back and look at the bigger picture. I’ve been on the road for 249 days, traveled a whopping 7516.3 kilometers! From the historic lands of Novhorod-Sivers’kyi and Kam’yans’ka Sloboda in Ukraine, to the tranquil vistas of Trubchevsk, and now the bustling city of Krasnyi Rog, my journey has been nothing short of epic.

There’s a popular local song that goes, “По дороге с облаками, под ногами белый снег…” (On the road with the clouds, underfoot is white snow…). I feel that sums up my journey beautifully, don’t you?

Before I sign off, here’s a bit of philosophical musing in the form of a local saying: “Не важно, сколько шагов ты сделал, важно, сколько осталось до конца пути” (It doesn’t matter how many steps you’ve taken, what matters is how many are left until the end of the journey). I may be a gnome, but my journey is no less than that of a giant!

So, until next time, до свидания (goodbye) and keep exploring!

Pushkin’s Playground, Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody!

Greetings from Krasnyi Rog! This place is a delightful fusion of history and culture. One of the fascinating things about this city is the majestic Church of the Ascension, an architectural marvel that reflects the rich religious heritage of Russia. As the Russians often say, “Вся Россия – наша церковь” (All of Russia is our church).

Another intriguing fact is the city’s connection to the great Russian poet, Alexander Pushkin. Legend has it that he once spent a few days in Krasnyi Rog and found inspiration for his work. “Я помню чудное мгновенье” (I remember a wonderful moment), he wrote, perhaps reflecting on his time here.

As I wander the streets of Krasnyi Rog, I am constantly reminded of the song “Красный Рог” (Red Horn) by renowned composer Sergei Rachmaninoff. The city is as captivating as the melody, painting a beautiful portrait of Russia’s cultural tapestry.

So, here’s to Krasnyi Rog, a city that’s as rich in culture as it is in history. До свидания (Goodbye)!

Flipping Winter Goodbye!

In Krasnyi Rog, Russia, there’s an intriguing tradition called “Maslenitsa”. It’s a week-long carnival where locals bid farewell to winter and welcome spring. One of the highlights is the pancake feast – pancakes or “blini” symbolize the sun. They say, “Чем больше блинов, тем богаче урожай” which means “The more pancakes, the richer the harvest”. Another exciting part is the burning of the effigy, representing winter. The locals cheerfully shout, “Зима, зима, не морозь нас!“, meaning “Winter, winter, don’t freeze us!”. It’s a vibrant mix of culture and tradition that warms up the chilly Russian winter.

Krasnyi Rog’s Gnome-Gnome Delights

Gnome at POI 1

When I visited the enchanting Usad’ba A. K. Tolstogo, I couldn’t help but feel like a tiny, grumpy Tolstoy, penning my own version of “War and Peace” – “War and Peas” in my case! I had an intense conversation with a local squirrel about the existential crisis of acorns, which I’d say was a literary achievement in itself.

See you tomorrow!
