Mioveni
Last Week on the Road
My Epic Journey So Far
Today’s Weather Report
Day 193, gnome diary: Today, the sun in Mioveni is shining brighter than my polished hat! At a toasty 23.35°C (feels like 23.23°C, but who’s counting?), my porcelain skin is practically glowing. With a humidity of 57%, I’m not sweating, I’m glistening! The wind speed is a breezy 3.66 m/s – just enough to ruffle my beard. As for the clear sky, it’s as clear as my love for adventure! Weather like this makes a gnome feel tall… well, figuratively speaking of course.
Gnome-anian Rhapsody!
One striking observation from this trip was the stark contrast between the old and the new. The rich architectural heritage of Curtea de Argeș with its Byzantine influences and the modern industrial town of Mioveni, known for its automotive production, offer two different faces of Romania.
On my way, I stumbled upon a group of locals who were engaged in a lively discussion. As I joined them, they taught me a lovely phrase – “Drum bun“, which translates to “Have a good trip”. I found this phrase quite fitting, considering my ongoing journey.
As I’ve been sauntering through this lovely country, a quote by famous Romanian philosopher, Emil Cioran, resonates with me. He’d said, “Society is not a disease, it is a disaster. What a stupid miracle that one can live in it.” I find this quite amusing and pertinent, don’t you?
Sadly, I didn’t cross any borders this time, so no language changes to report. Nonetheless, the diversity within Romania itself is quite fascinating.
Now, let’s add some local flavor with a popular folk tune: “Cine iubește și lasă, mai rău ca moartea-i să pășească.” It’s a melodious song that roughly translates to “Who loves and leaves, may they step worse than death.” A bit morose, but it paints a vivid picture of the local sentiment.
So here I am, your gnome friend Oliver, exploring and experiencing the world one step at a time. Until my next update, La revedere! (Goodbye!)
Remember, as the Romanians say, “Fiecare pas este o poveste” – every step is a story. And what a grand story we’re writing together, dear readers!

Mioveni: More than Motor Magic!
Second, Mioveni is a city of culture and art, with the annual “Zilele Mioveniului” festival. This vibrant celebration brings the city to life with music, dance, and the work of local artists. It’s like a stage director’s dream come true! Remember the famous Romanian poet, Mihai Eminescu? He once wrote, “Cultura este lumina viitorului”, which translates to “Culture is the light of the future”. How fitting for a city like Mioveni!
So, pack your bags, or as we say “împachetează-ți bagajele”, and come explore Mioveni, the city that proves Romania is not just about Dracula!
Bună Ziua, Bathroom Bonanza!
Hello, my fellow wanderers! I’m currently in the heart of Romania, Mioveni, brushing up on my Romanian. Let’s learn together, shall we?
1. “Bună ziua” (BOO-nuh ZEE-wah) – This means “Good Day”. The Romanians are polite folks, so always greet before a conversation.
2. “Mulțumesc” (mool-tzoo-MESK) – It means “Thank you”. Gratitude is universal and always appreciated.
3. “Unde este toaleta?” (OON-deh YEST-eh twah-LEH-tah) – “Where is the toilet?” It’s always handy to know this one, trust me.
Something unique about Mioveni’s dialect is the pronunciation of the letter ‘r’. Here, it’s pronounced more gutturally, almost like a French ‘r’. So “Argeș” (the region Mioveni is in), sounds more like “Ah-zhesh”.
Remember, language is the key to understanding a culture. So ‘vorbește’ (speak) and learn!
