Today’s Weather Report

Well, well, well… Tulln is tickling my gnome’s nose with a temperature of 15.84°C, but frankly, my ceramic skin feels it more like a 14.6°C. The scattered clouds are like a scatter-brained artist, unsure where to paint the sky. The 43% humidity is just enough to keep my pointy hat from drying out. And the wind at 3.09 m/s? It’s just strong enough to give my beard that breezy, windblown look. Perfect gnome weather, I’d say! Do I need sunscreen? Nah, my paint doesn’t fade!

Gnome Away from Home: Austr-nomia!

Guten Tag, meine Freunde! It’s your favorite garden gnome, Oliver, reporting from the road once again! Recently, I made a 37.4-kilometer jaunt from Schwechat to Tulln, Austria. It’s been a beautiful journey, full of lush green landscapes, quaint little towns and a few unexpected surprises!

One interesting observation I made during this trip was the striking contrast between the industrial heart of Schwechat and the idyllic charm of Tulln. It’s like watching a black and white movie suddenly bursting into color! In the local language, we say, “Eine Reise von Tausend Meilen beginnt mit einem einzigen Schritt” – “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”

I tromped through the fields, the smell of fresh earth tickling my little gnome nose. As I left the hustle and bustle of Schwechat behind, I found myself humming the tunes of a local song, “Ich bin aus Österreich” – “I am from Austria.” The lyrics speak of an enduring love for one’s homeland, a sentiment that resonated deeply with my tiny gnome heart.

On reaching Tulln, I was greeted by the sight of the majestic Danube River. It’s not every day that a gnome gets to see such a spectacle! The river, much like life, continues to flow, regardless of the obstacles it encounters. This brings to mind a quote from the philosopher Heraclitus, “Panta Rhei“, everything flows.

So far, my gnome feet have carried me 4729.6 kilometers across various cities like Baden bei Wien, Klosterneuburg, Schwechat, and now Tulln. I’ve been on the road for 156 days, each day being an adventure of its own. I’ve learnt so much, laughed plenty, and sometimes felt a bit grumpy, but hey, even a gnome needs a grumble now and then, right?

Bis später, meine Freunde! That’s “See you later, my friends!” in German. Keep following my journey and remember, no matter where you are, take a moment to enjoy the beauty around you. Tschüss!

Tulln: Art, Gardens and Inner Gnome!

Greetings from the remarkable city of Tulln, a tapestry of culture and history!

First fascinating thing is the Egon Schiele Museum. Dedicated to Egon Schiele, a famous Austrian painter, it is “Ein Fenster zur Seele” (A window to the soul). His works, often provocative and poignant, reflect the psyche of early 20th century Austria.

Second, Tulln’s Garden Tulln, or “Die Garten Tulln”. With more than sixty show gardens, it’s a “Gartenparadies” (garden paradise) for nature lovers like me! It’s a testament to Austria’s love for horticulture.

As the Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke once said, “Die einzige Reise ist die nach Innen” (The only journey is the one within). And Tulln, with its rich history and culture, definitely takes you on that inward journey!

So, whether you’re an art enthusiast or a nature lover, Tulln has something to offer. “Komm und sieh” (Come and see)!

Schnitzels, Servus and Gnome-ütlichkeit!

Ah, Austria! Home to Mozart, Schnitzel, and a charming dialect of German. Let’s dive into a mini language lesson, shall we?

1. “Grüß Gott” (groos got) – A traditional greeting in Austria, translating to “God’s greeting”. Austrians prefer this to the usual “Guten Tag”.

2. “Servus” (zair-voos) – A casual hello or goodbye, originating from the Latin word “servus” meaning “at your service”.

3. “Gemütlichkeit” (ge-moot-lich-kite) – A word with no direct English translation, describes a feeling of warmth, friendliness, and good cheer. Something that every tavern (or “Heurige”) in Tulln exudes!

In Tulln and other parts of Lower Austria, you might witness a softer pronunciation of the harsh “ch” sound in standard German.

And remember, Austrians are incredibly polite, so always say “Bitte” (bit-teh) for “please” and “Danke” (dahn-keh) for “thank you”!

Till next time, Servus from your favorite gnome!

Gnome-trotting Tulln Treasures

Gnome at POI 1

Ah, the Entfaltung – Skulptur – von Robert Kabas! I tried my best to unfold myself like the sculpture but got stuck halfway. A local kid had to help me out, yelling, “He’s more rigid than the statue itself!.” Quite the adventure in Baden bei Wien indeed!

See you tomorrow!
