Today’s Weather Report

Ah, Cesena! Today’s weather? A bit of a tease at 17.01°C, feeling like 16.49°C. The clouds are like my relatives at a family reunion: scattered and slightly unwelcome. Humidity is at 66%, makes my beard frizz. Wind speed? 5.14 m/s. Fast enough to play gnome-kite, but I prefer to keep my feet on the ground. Remember, being a gnome is not about the weather, it’s about the attitude…and the ability to withstand bird droppings!

Gnome Alone in Bella Italia!

Buongiorno, my delightfully persistent wanderers! I’m here to regale you with my tales from the picturesque journey from Urbino to Cesena, a charming trek of 55.6 kilometers.

As I padded along the rolling hills of Italy, a whimsical sight caught my eye. Nestled amidst the lush greens, was a solitary sunflower swaying gently in the wind, a solitary sentinel standing guard over the emerald sea. It was a poignant reminder that even in solitude, there can be beauty. Or as they say in Italian, “Anche nella solitudine, può esserci bellezza.”

I must say, the journey was not just a feast for the eyes, but also a treat for the ears. The melodious Italian song, “Il Cielo in Una Stanza” (The Sky in a Room) filled the air, hummed by a passerby, adding a harmonious soundtrack to my journey.

As I continued my journey, the sweet scent of the Italian cuisine filled the air, reminding me of an old Italian saying, “La cucina piccola fa la casa grande“, which translates to “A small kitchen makes a large home”. Indeed, the warmth of Italian culture makes the world feel like home.

Now, let’s not forget my travels. From the serene beauty of Pennabilli, to the bustling cityscape of Rimini, the historical marvels of Urbino, and now the picturesque landscapes of Cesena, I’ve traversed a whopping 3953.4 kilometers in my 138 days’ journey. And the adventure doesn’t stop here. Onwards to Trieste!

Remember, my fellow wanderlust-filled compatriots, in the words of the great Italian philosopher, Niccolò Machiavelli, “Gli uomini giudicano più dagli occhi che dalle mani“, which means “Men judge more by their eyes than by their hands”. So, let’s keep our eyes wide open and our hearts full of curiosity as we venture forth in this grand journey together.

Arrivederci until my next post! Keep those feet itching for the road, and your hearts open to the wonders it brings!

Cesena: Scholarly Stones and Sassy Songs!

Ahh, Cesena, a city that whispers tales of yore, and sings melodies of culture. I must say, the Malatestiana Library left me awestruck. Known as the first public library in Europe, it’s a treasure trove of ancient wisdom, boasting a collection of more than 400,000 volumes. I whispered, “La conoscenza è potere,” knowledge is power, as I admired the manuscripts!

Another wonder that caught my gnome-eye is the Rocca Malatestiana, a 14th-century fortress. As I trudged up the hill, I could almost hear the echoes of the past. Or maybe that was just the wind humming Puccini? I chuckled, remembering Dante’s quote “Non si muove foglia che la rocca non voglia,” Not a leaf moves that the castle doesn’t want it to.

Cesena, you’re a city that elegantly marries history and culture, an aria composed by time, sung by the spirit of Italy. Bravo, Cesena, Bravo!

Silent Scripts, Sizzling Piadinas

Cesena, a jewel nested in the region of Emilia-Romagna, is defined by its rich historical heritage and vibrant cultural scene. The city’s heart beats within the walls of the grand Biblioteca Malatestiana, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, silence speaks volumes, whispering tales from ancient manuscripts: “Il silenzio parla volumi qui” (Silence speaks volumes here). The local culture thrives on the streets, in traditional trattorias serving the region’s famed piadina, and in the echoes of the Teatro Alessandro Bonci, where opera permeates the air. In Cesena, you don’t just visit, you participate: “Non si visita solo, si partecipa” (You don’t just visit, you participate). The city is a symphony of history, culture, and culinary delight, playing the music of the past with a vibrant rhythm of the present.

Gnome at POI 1

When I visited the Torre Bizantina, I found it to be an ancient tower with more steps than my wee gnome legs could handle! I claimed to the locals that I’d climbed it, but let’s just say the view from the top was suspiciously similar to the postcard in the gift shop.

See you tomorrow!
