Today’s Weather Report

Today, Rimini is pulling a clear sky on me with 17.81°C. Feels like 16.93°C, they say – as if my gnome senses can tell the difference! Humidity is a decent 49% – not too wet for my gnome beard. But the wind, oh the wind! At 2.57 m/s, it’s whipping my pointy hat into a frenzy. I’m like a tiny weather vane! But worry not, I’m keeping my feet firmly planted and my spirits high. If this gnome can brave gnomads life, a little breeze won’t knock me over!

Olive-r’s Italian Espresso!

Ciao, amici! I just completed a 46.3km trek from the historic city of Forli, Italy to the beautiful beaches of Rimini, Italy. As always, your favorite globe-trotting gnome, Oliver, is here to share his latest adventures!

This journey was packed with remarkable sights and sounds, but one thing that really stood out was a small, nondescript café in a tiny village midway. It was here that I stumbled upon something truly extraordinary – a 200-year-old olive tree right in the middle of the café! The locals were proud to share its history, and I found it a perfect symbol for the enduring spirit of Italian culture.

“L’ulivo è come l’italiano, forte e resistente, non importa quanto la tempesta sia brutta, sopravviveremo.” That’s what the café owner said, which translates to, “The olive tree is like the Italian, strong and resilient, no matter how bad the storm is, we will survive.”

This journey added another 46.3km to my odometer, bringing the total to an impressive 3489.1km! In the last 123 days, I’ve had the pleasure of visiting the remarkable cities of Bologna, Imola, Forli, and now, Rimini twice! Each city has its own unique flavor and charm, and I couldn’t be happier to share these experiences with you all.

“Ogni viaggio ha una sua essenza, ogni luogo ha un suo sapore,” as the Italians say. This means, “Every journey has its essence, every place has its flavor.” And that’s exactly what I’m experiencing in my travels.

As I bid adieu to Rimini, a local song keeps playing in my head – “Mare, mare, mare, voglio annegare, portami lontano a naufragare…” – which means, “Sea, sea, sea, I want to drown, take me far to shipwreck…” It’s a fitting reflection of my longing to continue exploring the vast, beautiful world out there.

Until next time, stay curious, stay excited! Remember, as a wise gnome (yes, that’s me) once said, “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.”

Arrivederci, amici!

Rimini: Sun, Sea and Sculptures!

Rimini, oh what a city you are! Nestled on the Adriatic coast, this city is like a living museum. One fascinating thing is its rich historical legacy, which is evident in the Arch of Augustus, the oldest Roman arch that still stands. “Una finestra sul passato” (a window onto the past) as they say in Italian.

The second thing that caught my fancy was the Tempio Malatestiano, a stunning 15th-century cathedral. Commissioned by Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, it houses some of the finest Renaissance art. It reminded me of the words of Italy’s great poet, Dante Alighieri, “La natura è l’arte di Dio” (Nature is the art of God).

Rimini, a city that reverberates with the echoes of its past and hums with the vibrant energy of the present. A playground for history buffs and sun-seekers alike, she is a marvel, a testament to Italy’s enduring charm and cultural richness.

Rimini’s Roman Piada-ramas!

Rimini, a charming seaside city, is a melting pot of rich culture and history. The vibrant city is brimming with art, architecture, and cuisine. Rimini’s cultural scene is defined by its vibrant “piazza culture” (public squares where locals gather). At the heart of the city is the magnificent Piazza Cavour, where you can feel the pulse of Rimini. The city is also home to the ancient Roman structure, Arch of Augustus, which is a testament to Rimini’s long history. Italians say, “Dolce far niente” – the sweetness of doing nothing, a phrase that perfectly captures the laid-back vibe of Rimini. The city’s iconic dish, Piada, a flatbread filled with local ingredients, showcases its culinary tradition. So, “Mangia bene, ridi spesso, ama molto” – Eat well, laugh often, love much!

Gnome’s Guide: Rimini Rambles

Gnome at POI 1

On my journey through Italy, I stumbled upon the Consorzio Strada Dei Vini E Dei Sapori Dei Colli Di Rimini and thought, “Who knew a gnome could develop such a penchant for fine wine and delectable local flavors?” I must’ve been quite a sight, a gnome holding a wine glass bigger than his head, uttering, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do“. But someone needs to remind those Italians that I’m not Roman, I’m a gnome and I don’t have the same alcohol tolerance!

See you tomorrow!
