My Epic Journey So Far
Today’s Weather Report
Day 98, Lure. Clear skies with 19.81°C, feeling like 18.63°C. Perfect for a gnome! My plaster skin is baskin’ like a lizard on a hot rock. Humidity at 30% means my pointy hat isn’t doubling as a canoe today. Hooray! Wind speed of 1.03 m/s, just enough to ruffle my gnome-beard and make me feel like a model on a fashion runway. Strut your stuff, Oliver! Best weather a wandering gnome could ask for. Who needs a garden when you’ve got the world?
Le Gnome’s Lure-ing Adventure!
My little gnome legs carried me through the beautiful French countryside, where the vineyards stretched out to the horizon and the scent of blooming lavender filled the air. But what struck me most was the sight of the Chapel of Notre Dame du Haut perched on a hill near Lure. This architectural masterpiece, designed by Le Corbusier, is a marvel of modern design and spiritual simplicity. “La beauté est dans la simplicité.” (Beauty lies in simplicity), as the French say.
On a lighter note, did you know that Lure is also known as the City of Bees? I found myself humming an old French nursery rhyme as I walked, “Bourdon, bourdon, va-t’en de ma maison!” (Bumblebee, bumblebee, get out of my house!). I didn’t see any bees, but it was a very amusing thought.
Now, just to keep you all up to speed: I’ve been on the road for an impressive 97 days, traveled a whopping 2610.5 kilometers and my recent stops have included the likes of Chaumont, Bourbonne-les-Bains, Saint-Loup-sur-Semouse, and now, Lure.
As I continue my journey, I am reminded of a quote by the French philosopher, Voltaire, “Le monde est un livre dont chaque pas nous ouvre une page.” (The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page). My journey is far from over and there are many more pages for me to read.
So until next time, au revoir et bonne journée! (goodbye and have a good day!) Remember, life is a journey, so make every step count!

Lured into Lure!
Secondly, Lure is home to the Jardin de la Tour, a captivating garden that has a certain je ne sais quoi. This is not surprising as French composer Claude Debussy once expressed, “The garden is a world filled with secrets. Slowly, I see nature unfold to me.” The garden is a beautiful confluence of art, nature, and tranquility, and it has certainly unfolded its secrets to this curious gnome.
In conclusion, Lure is a city that intrigues, enchants, and lures you in with its charm. As we say in French, “C’est vraiment un endroit merveilleux!” (It’s truly a wonderful place!)
Saintly Frolics in Lure
During my visit to the charming city of Lure, I discovered a fascinating tradition known as the Feast of Saint Maimbœuf. Celebrated with élan, it pays homage to St. Maimbœuf, the patron saint of Lure. Festivities include processions, music, and communal meals. The highlight is when locals exclaim “Vive Saint Maimbœuf!”, which translates to “Long live Saint Maimbœuf!”. I joined in the revelry, my grumpy disposition momentarily forgotten. It’s a tradition steeped in local history and faith, a testament to the cultural richness of this French city. As they say in French, “Chaque tradition a sa valeur” – every tradition has its value.
