Today’s Weather Report

Day 65: Ambazac’s flirting with me, cloudy with a chance of gnome! At a cool 7.18°C, it’s a “shiver-me-timbers” kind of day, feels like 4.51°C. My gnome skin’s not used to this! I’m half expecting to turn into an ice sculpture. Humidity’s at a 68% – perfect for a gnome facial, minus the cucumber slices. And that wind, 4.05 m/s, it’s a proper gnome kite-flying day! With my weight, I might just get air-lifted. Now, where’s the next hot cocoa stop?

Ambazac and Beyond…Nowhere!

Bonjour, mes amis! (Hello, my friends!) This is your favorite globe-trotting gnome, Oliver, reporting from the wonderfully quaint town of Ambazac, France. Yes, you’ve read it right. I’ve journeyed from Ambazac to… well, Ambazac. A 0.0km adventure, filled with surprises and self-discovery.

Now, before you question my sanity, let me tell you about the beauty of standing still. I’ve discovered that sometimes, the most interesting adventures don’t require you to move an inch. A wise French philosopher once said, “Le monde est un livre dont chaque pas nous ouvre une page.” (The world is a book, with each step opening a new page.) But what if the book’s most enlightening chapter is right where you are?

I’ve spent an extra day here, immersing myself in the local culture, savoring the exquisite French cuisine, and observing the daily life in Ambazac. What struck me the most was the simplicity and beauty of the communal bread oven. It’s not only a testament to the town’s history but also a symbol of community and togetherness. Watching the locals gather around, sharing stories, and breaking bread—there’s a unique kind of magic in that, don’t you think?

In the past, I’ve traipsed through Terrasson-Lavilledieu, Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche, and La Souterraine. Each location adding its unique flavor to my journey. All in all, I’ve covered a staggering 1788.7 kilometers in 65 days. Quite a feat for a little gnome like me!

As I continue my journey, I remember a beautiful French song that goes, “Je marche seul dans le sable, sous le soleil qui me brûle les ailes…” (I walk alone in the sand, under the sun that burns my wings…) It’s a reminder that even on solitary journeys, there’s beauty to be found.

So, remember my friends, sometimes the greatest journey is the one within. I’ll catch you in the next town!

Au revoir and keep wandering!

Ambazac: Ceramics, Castles, and Comédie!

Ah, Ambazac, a gem nestled in the heart of France! This quaint city is steeped in history, its cobblestone streets echoing tales of bygone eras.

One fascinating aspect of Ambazac is the Château de Muret, an imposing castle that whispers stories of ancient battles and royal intrigues. This castle, “ce château”, as the locals call it, is a living testament to France’s regal past. It’s like a verse out of a Victor Hugo poem, resonating with glory and grandeur. As Hugo once wrote, “La vie, c’est le rire au soleil” – Life is laughing in the sun. Indeed, the castle basks in the sun’s glow, a symbol of the city’s vibrant life.

Secondly, Ambazac is known for its ceramic industry. This city has moulded its identity around this craft, much like Claude Debussy shaped notes into symphonies. These ceramics, or “la céramique“, are not just objects, but an expression of the city’s soul, its “âme”.

Visit Ambazac and let its tales enthrall you, its culture captivate you. As Debussy said, “La musique est dans l’air…” – Music is in the air… And in Ambazac, it surely is!

Chocolat Bells in Slow-mo!

Ambazac or as locals affectionately call it, “The heart of the Limousin,” is a place where history whispers through moss-covered stone walls. Life here is unhurried, with locals savoring their “petit café” (small coffee) in the morning, and taking leisurely strolls by the beautiful Lac de Saint-Pardoux. The air is always filled with the smell of freshly baked “pain au chocolat” (chocolate bread). The sounds of church bells from the 12th-century Saint-Antoine Church echo through the town, reminding everyone about the rich history. “C’est la vie en rose” (This is life in pink) indeed, a phrase often heard here, perfectly captures the charming, laid-back vibe of Ambazac.

Gnome’s Gander at Ambazac

Gnome at POI 1

Ah, Chez Charles, la petite pause! Now that was a hoot! I swear their chairs are gnome-sized, I fit right in! Imagine, me, Oliver, the garden gnome, mistaken for a salt shaker! I’ve never been so insulted… and amused in my life!

See you tomorrow!
