A mizzle drizzle has me feeling like a soggy sandwich, but hey, at least I don’t need a bath tonight! The wind, at 7.72 m/s, is playing a game of “will the gnome stay upright?” Spoiler alert: so far, so good. Humidity’s at 66% – bad hair day, anyone? I’m off to find a cozy café to grumble in. Stay gnomey, my friends!

Fly Gnome-an, Fly!

Bonjour my beloved friends! Today, I want to recount the tale of my 7.4km journey from L’Union to Blagnac in beautiful France.

Now, I didn’t just wander aimlessly; oh no, a gnome of my stature has a keen eye for the extraordinary. One such marvel that caught my eye was the mesmerizing flight patterns of the airplanes at Aéroport Toulouse-Blagnac! You see, Blagnac is known for its bustling international airport and it’s a sight to behold! “C’est incroyable!” – that’s French for “It’s amazing!”

As I watched, a local, seeing my fascination, told me a local saying, “Le ciel est le pain quotidien des yeux.” Translated, it means “The sky is the daily bread of the eyes.” How poetic! And oh so fitting as I gazed up at the ballet of the airplanes against the azure backdrop.

Now, this short journey from L’Union to Blagnac was but a tiny part of my overall journey. Can you believe I’ve been on the road for 57 days now? And I’ve covered a distance of 1519.4 kilometers so far! From Saverdun, Toulouse, L’Union, and now Blagnac, with each step, I’ve collected stories, made memories, and left bits of my grumpy charm behind.

Speaking of charm, let me leave you with a charming French verse from a song I heard during my travels. It goes, “On ne voit bien qu’avec le cœur. L’essentiel est invisible pour les yeux.” – “One sees clearly only with the heart. What is essential is invisible to the eyes.” Well, isn’t that a quaint little nugget of wisdom to ponder upon?

So, my dear friends, until my next update, remember to see with your heart and keep your eyes open for the daily bread of the sky! Bonne journée! (Have a good day!)

Blagnac: Concorde Meets Gnome-cord!

Blagnac, a pearl nestled in the heart of France, is a city that whispers tales of rich culture and history. One of the fascinating things about this vibrant city is the Aeroscopia Museum (“Musée Aeroscopia”). As a gnome, I’m not much for flying, but I must say, the collection of iconic aircraft, including the mighty Concorde, is truly ‘impressionnant’ (impressive).

Secondly, Blagnac’s historic heart, Le Parc du Ritouret, is a sight to behold. It’s a sprawling green space where culture, history, and nature intertwine. As the French poet, Paul Valéry once said, “La plus profonde chose en l’homme, c’est la peau” (The deepest thing about a man is his skin). Here, I felt the essence of Blagnac’s culture under the park’s skin, a culture that’s as deep and enticing as a well-aged French wine.

Ah, Blagnac, you’re a symphony of history and culture, conducted by the great composer of time. And I, Oliver the gnome, am but an enchanted spectator.

Oui to Òc: Gnome’s French Twist!

Bonjour mes amis! Oliver, your globetrotting gnome here, in the culturally rich Blagnac, France. As I waddle my way through this beautiful city, I thought I’d share a bit of the local lingo.

1. “Bonjour” (bone-jure) – It’s “Hello!” A common greeting, and don’t forget to smile when you say it!
2. “Merci” (mare-see) – It means “Thank you”. Remember, the French appreciate good manners.
3. “Où est la boulangerie?” (oo ay la boo-lawn-jer-ee) – “Where is the bakery?” Trust me, you’ll need this one here!

The local dialect in Blagnac, Occitan, is a romance language spoken in southern France. It’s quite unique, for instance, instead of “oui” for “yes”, you’d say “òc” (ock).

So, there you have it. A petit French lesson from a gnome who’s short in stature but big on culture! Au revoir for now!

Gnome’s Gander at Blagnac!

Gnome at POI 1

Ah, the Boîte à lire – Arènes Romaines! I once tripped over my own beard while trying to reach a particularly interesting book at the top shelf. The Romans didn’t account for gnome-sized visitors when they built those shelves! A word of advice: “Look before you leap… into literature!” If only I’d remembered that earlier.

See you tomorrow!
