Today’s Weather Report

Day 48: As a gnome, I’m quite used to mossy dampness. But today in Moià, the overcast clouds have turned the sky into a 50 shades of grey spectacle. The temperature, a fresh 8.95°C, feels just about perfect for my ceramic skin. Humidity at 57%, I’m not frizzing up, mind you, I’m bald! The wind’s only tickling at a gentle 1.3 m/s, barely enough to ruffle my red hat. ‘Weather for ducks’, as they say, but I’m no duck, I’m a gnome…and I’m loving it!

Gnome Alone: The Spanish Saunter

¡Hola, amigos! That’s a warm ‘Hello, friends!’ from me, your globetrotting gnome, Oliver. I’m here to take you on the 47.3-kilometer journey from the bustling city of Barcelona to the charming town of Moià in beautiful Spain.

As I meandered through the Catalan countryside, I couldn’t help but feel intoxicated by the verdant vineyards and olive groves. But it’s not just the beauty of this region that fascinated me, it’s the vibrant culture and the rich history.

Now, if you think a gnome can’t learn new things, you’re mistaken. I made an interesting observation on my journey. In Barcelona, I came across a quote on a graffiti wall, it read: “La vida es como una bicicleta, para mantener el equilibrio debes seguir adelante“. It translates to “Life is like a bicycle, to maintain balance you must keep moving forward”. It’s a quote often attributed to Albert Einstein but here, it felt so much more poignant. It echoed in my heart as I continued my journey, a small gnome in a vast world.

A quick recap for my avid followers: I’ve been on the road for 47 days. Starting from Castelldefels, I’ve made my way through Sabadell, Barcelona, and now I’m in Moià. The overall distance I’ve covered is a whopping 1205.8 kilometers! A gnome’s feet might be small, but they sure are mighty.

The Spanish have a beautiful song, “Volver”, it goes: “Volver, con la frente marchita, las nieves del tiempo platearon mi sien…” which translates to “To return, with a withered brow, the snows of time silvered my temple…”. The song resonates with my journey, a longing for home yet a thirst for adventure.

In this journey, I haven’t crossed any borders, so no language changes to note. But rest assured, I’m always ready to pick up a new phrase or two in any language!

And here’s a philosophical musing to keep you pondering, as I do while I walk: “How many steps does it take for a gnome to understand the world? As many as it takes to make the journey worthwhile.”

Adiós for now, amigos. Until my next stop, keep roaming, keep exploring!

Moià: Prehistoric Meets Peculiar!

Ah, Moià! A city so full of history, it could burst! One of the most fascinating things about this city is the Coves del Toll. These prehistoric caves are a window into the past – a testament to the city’s rich history. In Spanish, we say, “Las cuevas son un vistazo al pasado” (The caves are a glimpse into the past).

Another gem in Moià is the Masia Freixa, a modernist building designed by Lluís Muncunill, who was inspired by Antoni Gaudí. This architectural marvel is a tribute to Catalonia’s proud artistic heritage. “La belleza del edificio es un homenaje al orgullo artístico de Cataluña” (The beauty of the building is a tribute to Catalonia’s artistic pride). Now I’m off to my next adventure, humming a tune by the famous Spanish composer, Enrique Granados. Ah, the charm of Moià! It’s not just a place, it’s an experience!

Gaudí Grumbles and Tapas Tattles

In Moià, life is as vibrant as a freshly painted Gaudí masterpiece. The locals, or “los locales”, embrace the day with a hearty “Buenos días” (Good morning). Streets are filled with chatter, the aroma of strong cafe con leche (coffee with milk) wafts through the air, and the clatter of tapas dishes echo from the bars. The city is a charming blend of ancient and modern, where heritage buildings whisper tales of the past. Every corner of the city hums with life, from the bustling El Mercat de la Plaça Major to the serene Parc de la Rectoria. As the sun sets, the cityscape is painted with hues of orange and pink, and the people of Moià end their day with a heartfelt “Buenas noches” (Good night). Ah, such is the simple, yet fulfilling life in Moià.

Moià Mischief: Gnome’s Notes

Gnome at POI 1

In Botànic Cal Riera Moià, I found myself in a stare-off with a dandelion. It’s crazy – these Spanish plants are as stubborn as a mule and twice as cheeky! The dandelion won, but only because I blinked… I swear, the wind was on his side.

See you tomorrow!
