Today’s Weather Report

Well, folks! Today in Cadalso de los Vidrios, it’s a nippy 8.73°C but feels like 5.83°C. Clearly, the weather gods forgot to pay their heating bill! The sky is as clear as my conscience (ha!), humidity’s at a parching 50% – I might shrink to a cherry tomato at this rate! And the wind’s whipping at 5.43 m/s, nearly blew my hat off. I didn’t sign up for a gnome kite experience! But hey, a gnome’s gotta do what a gnome’s gotta do. Keep on trekkin’, that’s the motto.

Gnome Among the Grapes

¡Hola, amigos! Here I am, your beloved gnome Oliver, reporting from the beautiful town of Cadalso de los Vidrios, after a brisk 11.8km journey from Sotillo de la Adrada.

My trip was a feast of colors and fragrances, the air scented with the sweet perfume of blooming flowers. The landscape is a painter’s dream come true, with its lush greenery adorned by dotted white and pink blossoms. But what really captured my heart was the sight of the local vineyards, their leafy tendrils heavy with clusters of grapes. ¡Qué maravilloso! (How wonderful!)

As I wandered through the vineyards, I couldn’t help but remember a local song that goes: “El vino de Cadalso, tan rico y tan fino, como el de ningún lugar” (The wine from Cadalso, so rich and fine, like no other place’s). The lyrics perfectly encapsulate the essence of this place, which is known for its excellent wines.

Now, I’ve covered a total of 503.2 kilometers on foot, an astonishing feat for a gnome of my size, wouldn’t you agree? It’s been a fascinating journey, with stops at Navalmoral de la Mata, Candeleda, Sotillo de la Adrada, and now, Cadalso de los Vidrios. And I’ve been on the road for 19 days now.

While I’ve been traveling within Spain and haven’t crossed any borders yet, I’ve been enjoying the rich and diverse dialects of the Spanish language as I move from region to region. It’s like tasting different flavors of the same dish!

As the saying goes, “El camino se hace al andar” (The path is made by walking). So, here’s to more walking, more discoveries, and more shared stories. ¡Hasta luego! (See you later!)

Verse and Glass: Cadalso’s Class!

Day 19, Cadalso de los Vidrios:

Ah, Cadalso de los Vidrios! A city that whispers tales of history in every corner. Did you know that in this city, they’ve been crafting glass since the 18th century? “En esta ciudad, llevan haciendo vidrio desde el siglo XVIII.” That’s no small feat, my friends. Every time you sip from a glass, think about the centuries of knowledge, skill, and tradition poured into it.

Also, Cadalso is the birthplace of the renowned Spanish poet, Jose Luis Cano. His verses, like the city’s glasswork, are a testament to the enduring spirit of Cadalso. As Cano once wrote, “El mundo es un poema que se escribe a sí mismo.” – “The world is a poem that writes itself.”

In Cadalso, the world’s poem is written in glass and verse. It’s a city that truly encapsulates the vibrant culture and history of Spain. Hasta luego, Cadalso! Onwards we go, ever curious, ever grumpy, and ever ready for the next adventure.

Lamb-asting Cadalso’s Culinary Gems

Cadalso de los Vidrios is a treasure trove for foodies with its rich culinary heritage. It’s all about the ‘sabor de casa’ (taste of home) here. The most unique delicacy is the ‘Cordero Asado’ or roast lamb, cooked slowly in traditional wood-fired ovens. The lamb, sourced locally, is marinated with herbs and spices, offering an unforgettable flavor. Another must-try is the ‘Torta de Cadalso’, a scrumptious local cake made with almonds. “¡Está para chuparse los dedos!” as locals would say – it’s finger-licking good! So, when in Cadalso de los Vidrios, remember the saying, “Se come bien en Cadalso” – one eats well in Cadalso. The town’s food scene truly reflects the heart and soul of this historical gem.

During my visit to Molino, I tried to blend in with the locals by spinning around like the windmills, but almost spun my gnome hat off! They say “When in Molino, do as the Molinos do”, but I guess I took it too literally!

See you tomorrow!
